The Chianti wine tour was definitely a highlight of our family trip to Tuscany. First, Elizabeth was extremely responsive, accommodating, and professional in helping us determine the best tour for our family. We had a range of individuals that needed bikes including those in their 20s, 60s, and even a pregnant rider. Elizabeth made sure we were all outfitted with the proper bikes and equipment. From the start of the tour, the staff of Tuscany Bicycle put the group at ease. Chris and Danielle made excellent tour guides. Safety was clearly a priority. I would definitely visit Tuscany Bicycle on our next trip to Italy!
A friend of mine and me took a one day bike-ride with Tuscany Bicycle of around 80 Km by the beautiful Tuscany area. The tour was very well planned, the guides super professional and the landscapes are just breathtaking. If you are a bike rider, doen´t matter your level, this is a a trip that you must include in your bucket list¡¡¡¡¡
Itching to ride while the weather was predicted to be nice, I found Tuscany Bicycle via online search. Elizabeth responded quickly and we were committed. After a busy season, it was mid/late October, and we were the only people signed on for the day. Filippo escorted us via bicycle & Elizabeth was always nearby with the van if we needed anything. The terrain was fantastic, the length of the ride was perfect, and the guide/service was exceptional! The bikes provided were outstanding! It felt like the Pinarello GAM was made for me; the size was perfect--thanks:) There are several tours to choose from depending on your time and ability. Check them out!
We felt pretty lucky to have found this great bike store. The staff took time to discuss routes with us. With one day notice, we were able to rent both ebikes and a great carbon fibre bike. This was our best biking day during our holiday in Italy. Ebikes made it easy to tackle tough hills, road and traffic in the area were great. The staff spoke English which made it so easy for us and they provided excellent service. We highly recommend this place and would rent from them again if we were lucky enough to come back to this beautiful region. Cute little town with restaurants, food shops and lovely little pottery store.
On our recent trip to Tuscany, six in our group wanted to do some cycling on our own during our one week stay at a villa in Barberino Val d'Elsa and chose to rent bicycles from Tuscany Bicycle. Communication with Elizabeth was easy and timely (she was very patient with our large group) from the first time I contacted her. When we had to make some last minute adjustments to the rental period and the drop-off and pick-up times, they did not hesitate to accommodate us. All six bikes were delivered to our villa and set up by Filippo and he made sure we were all comfortable with our bikes (he worked very hard.) The bikes were excellent and in great working order. My husband and I had the Bianchi Gravel bikes (mainly because it was one of the only ones big enough for his 6'7" height) which were excellent. Just a side note here: the three in our group who chose the Cobra Hybrids did wish they had chosen one of the lighter bicycles after experiencing the hills! Here is where Tuscany Bicycle went above and beyond in providing outstanding service: when the bikes were delivered, one of our members knew that he would not be happy with the bike he initially booked and talked to Filippo about possibly getting a different one. By the next morning, Elizabeth and Filippo had sourced a suitable bike from a partner company (their own inventory was fully booked) and made arrangements to come back to our villa and exchange the bikes. They did not need to do this but went out of their way to make sure we would all have a great experience. We did!! We are incredibly impressed with the service (and the bikes) provided and would not hesitate to choose Tuscany Bicycle again. We thoroughly enjoyed being able to ride on our own in Tuscany for a few days and being able to rent good bicycles that could be delivered to us made that possible. Great experience, outstanding service!
Elizabeth and Filippo were awesome. They not only are partners at Tuscon Bicycle but are hands on and involved in every detail in the planning and execution of the rides. They amazing, scenic, and safe routes for our group that one day including wine tasting/lunch and on another, a wonderful lunch in a sleepy picturesque Tuscan village. The quality of the bikes were excellent (carbon fiber upgrade) and our guides very professional. We've ridden with the big name companies and there's nothing like the personalized service and attention that a smaller company brings to your experience. The van support was also a plus. How fortuitous of me to find Tuscany Bicycle on a google search! I worked with Elizabeth (co-owner) for a couple of months designing and organizing our rides - through several changes to our itinerary and our specific requests - and she was top notch! I couldn't have asked for better service. The carbon bikes we received were in pristine condition and the routes we were taken on for our day trips were nothing short of perfection! We had lovely backroads, they were safe, incredibly picturesque, challenging but doable (with the van for support if needed) and our stops in local villages were so sweet. Elizabeth organized lunches both days - one day at winery, Tenuta Torciano, for an incredible wine tasting with lunch. It simply doesn't get better than that! The owners were extremely knowledgeable not only of the region and biking but also gave us wonderful recommendations for restaurants and wine in the region. My husband and I have done several Backroads and Butterfield Robinson trips, so our standards were high, but Elizabeth and Tuscany Bicycle exceeded our expectations immensely! I can not wait til next Summer to plan another trip! Brava!!
Uncanny that one bike company can provide a group of riders of varied speed preferences with all of these things: superior quality bicycles, challenging, yet manageable and safe(!), courses, ever-present and friendly support, incredible views, photo-ops, and final, glorious descents that lead to delicious food and wine. Elizabeth, Fillipo, and Chris managed to do so with aplomb. They are smart professionals, knowledgeable about the local terrain, food, and wine, and all around wonderful people to spend the day with. Elizabeth Miller, Managing Director of Tuscany Bicycle Travel and Manager for Sales and Marketing for Tuscany Bicycle and Tuscany Bicycle Travel, is an ex semi pro bike racer, originally from Pennsylvania but Tuscan by adoption. Elizabeth has been a fulltime resident in Italy since the late 1980’s. In the early 90’s she competed at the semi pro/pro level for road, MTB and track racing in Northern Italy and was crowned Champion of Lombardy three times during her illustrious racing career. Over the last 20 years, Elizabeth has worked her way through the ranks first as guide, then Trip Specialist and finally as Italian Area Manager for leading international bike tour companies, designing, leading and managing both multi day and single day trips – as well overseeing accounts payable, suppliers, hotels, guides, mechanics, and equipment to run the trips. Fifteen years ago, Elizabeth earned her professional sommelier designation in Italy from AIS (Italian Association of Sommelier) and went on to become a published Wine Critic on one of Italy’s foremost wine guides, Duemilavini. Today Elizabeth enjoys offering the best rental cycling equipment available on the market to Tuscany Bicycle customers, as well as creating unique, saturated in local culture biking trips, for cyclists of all levels – from families to serious amateur racers. When she is not out biking, Elizabeth can be found walking her two dogs, enjoying a nice glass of Brunello or roaring around Tuscany on her Ducati.
Francesca Bonicolini, born and raised in Tuscany, is from a small town on the western edge of Chianti called Terranuova Bracciolini. Francesca grew up on “Ribollita” and “Pappa al Pomodoro”, along with all of the flavors and traditions of all that is typically Tuscan. Francesca has always enjoyed learning new languages and meeting other people from different countries, and this has given her insight into seeing things from a different perspective as well as other cultures. Early in her life, Francesca also realized she really enjoyed showing other people “her Tuscany” – eventually she was able to turn her passion into her profession, first as receptionist then director for a number of different properties/farmhouses – and today as a coach/consultant for holiday homes, B & B’s and residences. In 2010 Francesca passed a very difficult state exam and obtained her qualification to act as Technical Director for tour operators. She is very proud and excited to work with Tuscany Bicycle Travel to put her 25 years of experience in incoming tourism to great use. Francesca says “See you soon in Tuscany!”
A beautiful former abbey dating back to 1049, now transformed into a leading winery, with a flagship gourmet restaurant, also featuring authentic accommodations located near Gaiole in Chianti, province of Siena.
A charming, sleepy medieval wine village, which was part of the “league of Chianti” dating back to the Middle Ages. Today Gaiole attracts thousands of visitors annually for a vintage bike race called L’Eroica. The race takes place in October and leaves from the main square of Gaiole.

One of Italy’s most famous medieval cities with gothic style architecture. Pictured is Piazza del Campo, where Il Palio, the iconic horse race takes place each July and August, amidst pomp and ceremony. Siena has been the long time rival of Florence in the history of Italy, and participated in a 450 year war with their bitter enemies the Florentines, eventually succumbing to their forces at the end of the 1400’s.
One of Chianti Classico’s most imposing and formidable of castles, which has been in the same family, the Ricasoli family, since the 1100’s. Today Castello di Brolio is one of the main tourist attractions in the Sienese countryside, featuring a world class winery, Barone Ricasoli, as well as a flagship winery restaurant, Osteria del Castello, and accommodation on site. There is also a great local bar, also owned by Barone Ricasoli, called Agribar, focusing on local products and traditions. Barone Ricasoli is accredited with being the estate where Chianti Classico wines were codified at the end of the 1800’s.
A stunning medieval and Renaiassance hill town, located in the province of Siena, in southern Tuscany. Montepulciano is one of Tuscany’s largest hill towns and is famous for its foods and fine wines. Vino Nobile di Montepulciano is one of Italy’s top DOCG wines, and is produced in the environs of Montepulciano. Montepulciano boasts a high quality production of pecorino cheese and pork products, as well as pici pasta.
A small medieval hill town located to the west of Pienza and close to the Crete Senesi in the Val d’Orcia. There are records suggesting that the hill on which Montalcino is situated, was inhabited as early as Etruscan times. Today this village is famous for Brunello di Montalcino, one of Italy’s most celebrated DOCG wines. This wine is produced with 100% Sangiovese Grosso grapes, and has shown to be age worthy even up to 100 years.
