Frequent questions

Where do your tours start and end?

All of our published itineraries start and finish at our bike store, Tuscany Bicycle, which is located in Gaiole in Chianti, Via Bettino Ricasoli n. 96. Gaiole in Chianti is a beautiful, charming medieval wine village located about a 60 minute drive from Florence and a 30 minute drive from Siena.

Where can I park and is it free for the day?

There are lots of free parking spots located quite near our store, immediately adjacent to the main square in Gaiole in Chianti. Please make sure you park in the white spaces not the blue ones. And be aware that some parking areas are only for one hour. Our store is located in a pedestrian area, so do not drive directly into the main square where our store is located as you will risk getting fined.

Can you pick us up at our hotel?

Yes, pick up and drop off at your hotel in Florence (+ 85 Euros in addition to the tour cost), Siena (+60 Euros in addition to the tour cost), Chianti Classico or other areas of Tuscany, please send us an email with your exact address for a quote. We are also able to pick up and drop you off at our nearest train station, which is San Giovanni Valdarno (+40 Euros in addition to the tour cost).

Is there a discount for students?

Yes, there is a 10% discount available for students on the full tour price. Discounts are valid for students under the age of 26 with proof of valid student ID.

What kind of bikes do you use on your tours?

This depends on the tour selected, and on your own personal choice as well. All of tours have a suggested bike included in the tour package cost. Other bike types are available for a supplemental charge or similar charge, depending upon your request. We provide high quality, well maintained bikes for our tours from such top brands as Pinarello, Bianchi, Olympia and Atala. The types of bikes we have available for use are the following ones: hybrids, E bikes, full carbon road bikes, gravel bikes, or MTB bikes. Can children participate in the tours?

Yes, children are welcome, but must be at least 12 years of age. Sometimes we are able to make exceptions to the rule, so please feel free to contact us for more info.

How many participants are accepted for a tour?

In general our tours are mainly small, semi private or private tours (by request only) made up of 4-8 participants since we are a boutique, high quality tour operator which focuses on excellent customer service and first class hospitality, as well as providing premium bikes and cycling accessories to complement your ride with us

Do your tours run rain or shine?

A tour can be cancelled by Tuscany Bicycle Travel due to unfavorable weather conditions which could prove dangerous for participants, or majeure forces or for undisclosed, independent reasons deliberated by Tuscany Bicycle Travel. In this case, Tuscany Bicycle Travel will provide an alternative tour with no variation in the original tour cost. If the client doesn’t accept this alternative tour, Tuscany Bicycle Travel will not be held responsible for issuing a refund.

What is the spoken language for the tours?

Tuscany Bicycle Travel’s expert local cycling guides are fluent in English or Italian. Other languages are available by request only.

How much distance can E bikes cover?

Tuscany Bicycle Travel’s state of the art, Bosch powered E bikes produced by Atala can travel up to 100 KM in the Eco mode, 75 KM in the Tour mode, 55 KM in the Sport mode and 45 KM in the Turbo mode (max assistance).

Do your tours run on weekends?

Yes, our tours are available 7 days a week from April 1st through October 15th. Please feel free to contact us for dates outside of this range for availability.

What accessories do you provide on your tours?

Tuscany Bicycle Travel provides for each participant a Tuscany Bicycle water bottle and Tuscany Bicycle map of Tuscany, as a souvenir to take home after your ride, as well as locks, helmets and repair kits all included in your bike rental for the tour. Some bike models also come equipped with small, sturdy handle bar bags made by Vaude – perfect for carrying small personal items such as a camera, wallet, or a cell phone.

Do you have Tuscany Bicycle Travel jerseys available for purchase?

Tuscany Bicycle Travel as well as Tuscany Bicycle (our boutique cycling store and home base for our tours) do have premium cycling jerseys and cycling shorts, hand made in Tuscany, Italy, available for purchase both online via email or at our store. You may view the cycling apparel we have available on both of our websites or contact us for more details.

Are you able to cater to special dietary needs?

Yes, of course – vegans, vegetarians, lactose intolerant, as well as those suffering from celiac disease.

What form of payment is accepted?

We accept cash payments on the day of the tour, all major credit cards and PayPal.

Are non-cycling partners welcome on the tour?

Yes, non-cycling participants are welcome on our tours and invited to join us in the support vehicle. We will deduct the cost of the bike rental from the itinerary cost.

What to bring?

We recommend consulting our what to wear section for appropriate cycling clothing. In addition, we also recommend bringing the following items: sunscreen, a cell phone or camera for photos, a lightweight, waterproof windbreaker (seasonally dependent),sunglasses, your wallet (for espresso doping, essential souvenirs, and lunch and/or snacks en route).
